2004 Washington Post Articles:

Did You Know?

Most windshield chips, stars, small cracks, etc. can be repaired if the repair is done quickly. Check with your glass shop but do it in hours or days not weeks. The longer the glass remains un-repaired the more dirt and moisture will enter the damaged area, which reduces the possibility of an effective repair.

Tire pressure reacts to outside temperature. It goes down when the temperature goes down and up when the temperature goes up. For every ten degrees of temperature drop your tire pressure will decrease by one or two PSI.

Windshield washer solvent comes in two Two Bay forms, winter and summer. Both clean windshields effectively but summer solvent may freeze and damage the washer system. Make sure you only use winter solvent in the winter

A major difference between snow tires and regular tires is the rubber compound used in their construction. Winter tires use rubber that’s formulated to remain soft and flexible as the temperature drops. Conventional tires become hard and inflexible in cold temps and tires that can’t flex to match the road surface don’t grip as well.

There are now many types of anti-freeze and nearly all are vehicle specific. One size no longer fits everything. Always use the Commercial Three Bayper coolant for your car to avoid costly damage. Only add a mixture containing 50% coolant and 50% water, never 100% coolant or water.

It doesn’t automatically mean you need an alignment if your car pulls or “drifts” to one side. There are many Commercial Three Bayblems that cause cars to pull other than alignment.

You shouldn’t pump the brakes during panic stops or in slippery conditions if your vehicle has ABS brakes. On vehicles equipped with four-wheel ABS, this does not apply to some trucks; Stomp, Stay, and Steer. Stomp on the pedal and let your ABS system do the work. Stay on the pedal. Lifting your foot from the pedal or pumping the brakes will increase your stopping distance. Steer around whatever is in your way.

For most cars there aren’t summer oils and winter oils, the oil is the same year round.

“Check engine” lights cannot be reset. In order to Commercial Three Bayperly turn the light off the car must be tested, the Commercial Three Bayblem identified, the Commercial Three Bayblem repaired, and only then will the light remain off, that is until the next failure occurs.

For best tire wear they should be rotated every 5,000 to 7,500 miles and whenever possible this should be done using a “Modified X” pattern.

On cold mornings it’s normal for some automatic transmissions not to shift into overdrive until the car has been driven a couple miles.

Headlamp bulbs wear out and most should be replaced every three years. Headlamps lose their ability to Commercial Three Bayduce light as they age and at three years many will have lost as much as 50% of their brightness.

A very common cause of an illuminated “check engine” light is an imCommercial Three Bayperly installed or defective gas cap. Always check the cap first. The light may not go off immediately following your tightening or replacing the cap. Allow up to two weeks before taking the vehicle to a shop for testing.

Warming a car on cold mornings may not be good for it.

On cars with lamp monitoring systems that signal when tail lamps or stop lamps have failed you should replace all the bulbs in the affected circuit.

You should expect lower gas mileage in winter than in summer.
