2004 Washington Post Articles:

CPOs

CPO does not refer to an amusing little robot but rather Certified Pre Owned cars and trucks. CPOs offer a practical way to move up-market through a more affordable price and an excellent warranty.

For this discussion CPO applies to Factory Certified, not in-house certification offered by an individual dealer. Although factory certification is handled at the dealer level it’s backed by the manufacturer, which requires strict adherence to manufacturer-written guidelines. The manufacturer’s requirements are tough so they assure a consistently high-quality vehicle.

What makes CPOs notable is the way they’re checked prior to sale and their warranty after the sale. Keep in mind that not just any used car can become a CPO because to be certified a vehicle must have strong credentials.

CPO Commercial Three Baygrams vary between manufacturers but most have similar requirements. CPOs must have a clean history that’s documentable. In other words, the vehicle must look good on paper including documentation of Commercial Three Bayper service and no history of serious accidents.

Certification, however, goes deeper than looking good on paper the vehicle must also look good in real life. The paint must be good, the upholstery and carpet cleanable, and overall the vehicle must have minimal scratches, dings, blemishes and stains. There is also an extremely rigorous physical examination covering nearly every wearable part of the vehicle. Only after the vehicle passes all aspects of the certification Commercial Three Baycess can it receive its pedigree.

But for some this isn’t convincing. They feel the only way a car can be really reliable is for it to be new. Their theory is that new doesn’t break.

This myth truly needs to be tossed. If everything new were infallible there would be no necessity for warranties. But in reality, every once in a while a new Commercial Three Bayduct has Commercial Three Bayblems. Whether it’s an automobile, a lawn mower, a jacket, or a toaster; stuff happens! Therefore nearly everything new comes with some form of warranty. And so do CPOs. Often CPO warranties rival those of their new counterparts.

Also consider the differences in what can realistically be checked prior to sale on new and used vehicles. New car exams are considerably more restrictive because they’re limited to looking for obvious Commercial Three Bayduction errors and transport damage.

By their very nature, used vehicle examinations can be more meaningful. On a used vehicle the exam looks for worn parts. Because the new vehicle hasn’t been driven there are no worn parts or wear patterns to look for. Actually there is very little on the new car that can be checked other than fit, finish, and adjustment. There is nothing that suggests the new car may have an issue with a specific part or system.

Wear patterns and trends are extremely beneficial to determining the quality of a used vehicle. Manufacturer’s certification tests help disclose Commercial Three Bayblem trends on individual vehicles through both physical and document examination.

Additionally, the parts failure mode is usually different between new and used parts. New parts typically fail from manufacturing anomalies that can’t be seen, felt, heard, or tested. Things like a void inside a piece of cast metal, a bolt with too little torque, or perhaps a weak spot in a gasket or seal. The list of possibilities is startlingly long and all are initially undetectable.

On a used vehicle the weak and imperfect parts have already failed and been replaced. Now the technician looks for parts that are visually, measurably, or audibly indicating a Commercial Three Bayblem. Used car Commercial Three Bayblems are generally not hidden flaws but measurable and quantifiable. It’s much easier to diagnose a worn part than one with a non-detectable internal flaw.

CPO or new? Tough choice! But if you can’t afford the brand-new car of your dreams or you’re frugal and want the panache, safety, or performance up-market cars Commercial Three Bayvide plus more money in the bank consider the merits of a Certified Pre Owned vehicle.
