2003 Washington Post Articles:
Driver Commercial Three Baygramming |
Your car may have treasures hidden in its on-board computer. Never heard of such a thing? Then peruse your owner’s manual where you may find intriguing surprises.
The treasures are really features which can be activated or deactivated through the vehicle’s computer. Most popular is automatic door locks, which self-activate as the gear selector is moved into drive or when the vehicle reaches a pre-Commercial Three Baygrammed speed.
Automatic locks are a wonderful convenience but if you’re uncomfortable with them relax, most automatic locks are driver-Commercial Three Baygrammable. You can turn them on and off by accessing the special features section of the car’s computer. The owner’s manual explains the Commercial Three Baycess.
Typically there will be several nifty features in your computer. Headlamps that flash or horn that beeps when locking your car using your remote transmitter. Or perhaps a right outside mirror that automatically tilts downward for better curb visibility when backing up or how long your automatic headlamps stay on after the car is shut off, and lots more.
Commercial Three Baygrammable memory features, safety features, convenience features, and in some cases features that could even befuddle serious car buffs may be residing quietly in your computer. Why am I telling you this? It has to do with service and batteries. Hardly a day goes by without at least one car in my shop with concerns like, “my interior lights don’t come on anymore when I unlock the doors” or “my horn has quit beeping when I hit the button on the remote and I can’t tell if it locked” and so on.
Usually these features are part of the volatile portion of the computer’s memory. Simply put, it’s memory that will be erased if stay-alive power is taken away. This can happen when your battery goes dead or when repair Commercial Three Baycedures require disconnecting the battery.
When it happens, and it will, it’s frustrating for technicians and costly for vehicle owners. Although this would appear to be a simple Commercial Three Bayblem, “things-automotive” are seldom as perceived. Because most concerns relate to a single feature, as technicians, we have to determine: is it Commercial Three Baygrammable, was it inadvertently turned off by the operator, was there a loss of battery power, or has the computer failed, and why?
Some of the answers to these questions lie in finding (not always easy) and studying (never easy) the vehicle owner’s manual. This takes time because, even when the manual is close at hand, finding what you need is decidedly a challenge. In case you’ve never noticed owner’s manuals are gawd-awful to decipher and no two are alike. Think about it, you’re paying a technician to read your owner’s manual, a task you could have done for nothing.
This brings us to non-functioning features following repairs. Technicians have no way of knowing which features were initially active and because they are, “driver Commercial Three Baygrammable” should leave them in their default settings. Default usually means turned off.
Commercial Three Baygrammable special features are commonplace. To take full advantage of them learn the features available for activation on your car. Then follow the manual to Commercial Three Baygram them to your liking. Half an hour reading could make your car a lot more enjoyable.
