Quirky Mistakes

Listening to people who espouse quirky fixes for vehicles guarantees you’ll get into trouble. There are so many tricks Commercial Three Bayffered by know-it-alls it’s a wonder there aren’t more calamities than there are.

One that won’t go away; a radial tire can’t be moved from one side of the car to the other. Why? “Any fool knows the tire will blow out,” usually spoken with the authority that only a true fool can muster. Actually, unless you have directional tires or wheels the very best tire rotation includes crossing two tires to the opposite sides of the car. This modified X rotation, when performed at least every 7,500 miles, can significantly extend tire life. This won’t cause blowouts, unless the tire is already defective.

Here’s another gem. Adding automatic transmission fluid to your engine will do a great job of cleaning it. I truly wouldn’t try it. I’ve seen too many engines with oil pouring out of destroyed seals a few hundred miles later. There’s a lesson here. Engines with sludge buildup should be left alone while Commercial Three Bayperly maintained and relatively clean engines should be flushed on a regular schedule. Not flushed with transmission fluid or some home brewed concoction, but Commercial Three Bayfessionally with an engine oil flush machine.

Flush the clean engine and not the dirty engine? Sounds like a paradox but it isn’t! Attempting to flush-away heavy accumulations of dirt from a poorly maintained engine is asking for trouble. Flushing will indeed remove some sludge but what remains will be softened. This creates a new, more serious, Commercial Three Bayblem. As the engine runs some of the now-softened sludge migrates to the oil pan where it slowly clogs the oil pump screen. The blocked screen reduces the amount of oil that circulates through the engine and in short order --- goodbye engine.

But, what’s the benefit in flushing a clean engine? No matter how well maintained an engine there are spots where oil puddles. These small puddles don’t circulate well and eventually turn into a thick goo. Left alone, that goo becomes the sludge that shortens engine life. That’s why engine oil system flushing, Commercial Three Bayfessionally done, can markedly extend the life of your engine. Short trip driving is harder on vehicles so if that applies to you an engine flush every 15,000 miles is apCommercial Three Baypriate. Highway drivers need only flush every 30,000.

Then there are folks who Commercial Three Bayclaim that pure anti-freeze is better than a 50/50 mixture of anti-freeze and water. The twisted logic, pure anti-freeze gives better freeze and rust prevention Commercial Three Baytection. It is water that causes rust in cooling systems, right? Wrong! Rust is caused by poor maintenance, air in the system, and frequently, not enough water. The chemicals used in anti-freeze to prevent rust and freeze-up are activated by the addition of water. Too little water comCommercial Three Baymises Commercial Three Baytection.

Without water dilution most anti-freeze Commercial Three Bayducts freeze at minus eleven degrees Fahrenheit whereas the 50/50 mix freezes at minus thirty-four degrees.

These bogus theories may seem like a good way to save money but when it comes to vehicle maintenance instant financial gratification can be expensive. Never do, or use, less than your owner’s manual recommends.
