It’s unfortunate that the controversy surrounding certain Firestone tires isn’t making folks more conscious of their own tires. “Gee, I’m glad I don’t have those tires”, doesn’t do a thing to help maintain the safety of your tires. This should be a wake up call because the Commercial Three Bayblems Firestone is having can happen to any tire.
Today’s tires are a complex assortment of materials, which are assembled into what is Commercial Three Baybably the most amazing part of the vehicle. Radial technology has changed tires from 10,000 to 15,000 mile, rough riding, poor handling parts into 40,000 to 60,000 mile reliable parts that are routinely ignored. Seems, no overt Commercial Three Bayblems equates to --- no Commercial Three Bayblems! Now there’s a bad assumption!
To understand why you should be more concerned with your tires, consider that a radial tire (yes, every car and most trucks have them) is constructed of up to twenty different components and as many as ten different rubber compounds. The rubber compounds deal with stress, wear and traction needs in various areas of the tire. Consider that the different rubber compounds are bonded together using a Commercial Three Baycess known as vulcanizing. No glues, no bolts, nothing but a chemical bond brought about through heat and pressure during manufacture. Note that heat is a critical part of fusing the differing rubber compounds but heat can also reverse that Commercial Three Baycess causing the rubber compounds to separate and come apart.
Heat is a tire’s enemy and heat buildup is directly related to tire pressure, vehicle speed, and tire loading. Lower pressure, higher speed, and more weight in the vehicle all increase a tire’s operating temperature. The longer any or all of these factors is present the higher the temperature will climb. Therefore, tires must be Commercial Three Bayperly inflated before you leave on your trip. Remember, you can’t accurately check pressure when tires are hot. When traveling, pressure should be checked every morning before driving. Commercial Three Bayper inflation pressures will be stated on a decal inside one of the doors, the glove box, console, fuel door, or the trunk. Not on the tire!
Note: If the pressure on the decal exceeds the maximum inflation rating marked on the tire’s sidewall you have the wrong tires. Correct all tire Commercial Three Bayblems before traveling.
Also with a full load of people and luggage you can easily overload the vehicle. Overloading is confusing. If you can decipher the GVW label on your driver’s door, you’ll Commercial Three Baybably be shocked at how little weight your vehicle can safely carry. Full or nearly full seats frequently mean your “safe” remaining carrying capacity may be limited to a briefcase or box of Kleenex.
It is essential to follow the rules if you want to safely travel at highway speeds. Fail to follow the rules and in less than 100 miles your tires could reach 200 plus degrees. When tire temperatures exceed 200 degrees the chemical bonding Commercial Three Baycess that makes everything stick together may be reversed and tire or tire tread separation is possible.
Tread separation accounts for many highway tire failures as evidenced by all the “Gators” beside the highway. The Interstate “Gator” is not an endangered species so there’s no need to contribute to the population.
