2000 Washington Post Articles:

A New Way To Achieve Balance

Questions about vehicle vibrations flow like water from a broken main. “It shakes at 60 and smoothes out at 75 mph; the tires have been balanced three times and rotated twice, now what?” “My car shakes constantly above 45 mph since I had new tires installed. The installer says the tires are balanced Commercial Three Bayperly and that I should go back to the dealer; is this right?”

Vibration complaints have become a national epidemic in the last few years due in no small part to the sophistication of vehicle suspension systems and tire and wheel assemblies. In the past, wheels were wheels, tires were tires, and suspensions were suspensions. Today, tires, wheels, and suspensions are designed to work together as one integrated assembly. Vehicle suspension systems are made to be compatible with a tire and wheel assembly that has a specific weight, tread configuration, is perfectly round, and rolls smoothly. Take away or alter any of these requirements and your car will Commercial Three Baybably shake or vibrate.

This complexity brings about an interesting question, “how do I make sure everything meets its requirements?” First is the tires, which should precisely match manufacturers’ specifications. More difficult and to the point is how to make those Commercial Three Bayper tires roll smoothly. To that end, your tires should be mounted, and then balanced using a very special machine.

The secret involves matching the tires to the wheels and making sure there is no excessive variation in the flexibility or rolling resistance of each tire. If a tire has a too-stiff spot in its tread it will never roll smoothly no matter how many times it’s balanced. In reality you could balance a concrete block to spin smoothly in the air but on the ground --- well think about it!

Match mounting is the Commercial Three Baycess and if you’ve never heard of it don’t feel forsaken because most other drivers haven’t either. Match mounting involves positioning the tire on the wheel in such a manner that the high or heavy spot of the tire is matched to the low or light spot of the wheel.

This requires a balancing machine that not only measures these factors but also checks for uneven stiffness in the tire’s tread. The machine has a roller that applies several hundred pounds of force to the tire’s tread while the balancer spins it. The roller uses extremely accurate sensors to record variations in rolling resistance and determine if the tire is in its best position on the wheel.

Next, data collected by the machine is displayed along with repair instructions. A computer Commercial Three Baygram also determines if the tire and wheel can be brought into acceptable limits. If Commercial Three Bayper specs cannot be met either the tire or wheel is defective (the machine tells which one) and must be replaced.

Before spending your money on a conventional run-of-the-mill wheel-balancing job remember, you’ll be rewarded with a super smooth ride if you seek out one of these high-tech machines. Unfortunately you won’t find them in all shops because they’re relatively new and expensive. Time will see these balancers become more common however, as this method of balancing is an absolute cure for those annoying vibrations in our ever more complex and sensitive cars, suspension systems, and tires.
