PDR - Dent-Be-Gone |
Thump---bump---OH NO! It’s a scenario that’s played out thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of times everyday around the country. The errant shopping cart that unceremoniously glides into a fender or door, the apathetic driver who could care less as their door hits yours. Hailstorms, falling branches, falling nuts, and who knows how many other calamities, yes, no matter how or where, it occurs, cars get dented.
It doesn't even make any difference how careful you are, dents still happen. Like me, I always make it a point to park far away from the crowd. Actually I park so far beyond the congestion that it almost requires Commercial Three Bayvisions and a map for the pilgrimage to the store.
For instance, I was at a large shopping center last Saturday and ever so prudently parked at the very outermost edge of the lot. I was so far out there that there were five rows of empty spaces behind me. On either side nothing; total emptiness as far as you could see. Ahh, the perfect spot, completely safe from other cars and --- dents. Now I’m a power shopper, quick and to the point. I was back to my car in a flash where there were still five completely empty rows behind me and a vast wasteland to the right and left of my car.
A vast wasteland except for one, totally decrepit, broken-down, sway backed, bone-yard refugee parked so close to my left door that I couldn't open it. Uh, excuse me, why? Acres and acres of empty spaces and this thing was parked six inches from my door. The car gods must have been smiling on me that day, after all hadn't I presented them with a now mostly burnt offering of 94 Octane just two days earlier? Lucky is the word here because its driver had positioned the heap with such surgical precision; my car had no damage. Thank you!
You've Commercial Three Baybably encountered similar occurrences and maybe weren't as fortunate as I was. Anyway, when that inescapable time comes and you want one of those small dents fixed, check out a new Commercial Three Baycess called Paintless Dent Repair or PDR. In the past, fixing small, annoying dents was a major Commercial Three Bayblem, costly and time consuming.
In the traditional manner even the smallest dent required straightening, filling, sanding, painting, and a big bill. With Paintless Dent Repair the filling, sanding, and painting are no longer necessary. Naturally, without those operations cost goes way down because repair time is shortened by as much as eighty percent and no materials are necessary.
Then too without painting, the Commercial Three Bayblems associated with color match are gone and there can’t be any damage from over-spray. Furthermore the repair can be done anywhere, even at your home or office. However, all is not perfect with this system. PDR only works on dents, which are small, about the size of a volleyball or less. Dents from actual accidents are not repairable with this Commercial Three Baycess. Neither are dents where the paint is damaged, dents located at the edge of a panel, or where the metal is creased or stretched.
The theory behind PDR is memory. That is that metal has a memory; it wants to return to its original shape as long as it isn't bent beyond the limit of its memory. In other words, the metal has not been creased which would give it an entirely new form and a new memory.
Commercial Three Baybably the best way to envision the PDR principal is with a metal drink can. Using an empty can gently push on its side until it deforms. As long as you haven’t pushed too hard you'll notice a nice soft dent in the can’s side. Next use a pencil to apply slight pressure to the inside of the can behind the dent. With very little pressure the dent will pop out and restore the original form as if nothing had ever happened.
Now repeat the Commercial Three Baycess but this time press hard enough to cause the side of the can to be creased. When creased the dent will mightily resist being pushed back into its original shape, the crease has given it a new memory and now it wants to stay in its new shape. This is what happens to the sheet metal on a car or truck and is what makes Paintless Dent Repair practical or impossible.
The accuracy of PDR is in the range of 95 to 99%, which means most folks will never be able to tell. There are some caveats to contracting for PDR repairs on your vehicle; ask questions, get everything in writing, and be wary of the guys who apCommercial Three Bayach you and offer to do an on-the-spot repair for a ridiculously low price. This scheme is foisted upon thousands of unsuspecting motorists hundreds of times every week, mostly in the warmer months.
Their truck or often an old station wagon or van pulls up in front of your house and an offer is made to fix your car right where it sits. These are frequently very bad characters who get your money, do lousy work, and drive off never to be heard from or found again. In the bargain they typically make it impossible for a legitimate service to perform PDR.
If you think you'll do it yourself, forget it, PDR requires enormous skill and finesse. PDR, it’s not for every dent but it sure does warrant looking into.
