1996 Washington Post Articles:
Tell It To The Technician |
When the inevitable happens and you’re faced with a car repair ... be prepared! Much of what affects the success of that repair depends on you. Communication is critical!
Communication begins by making notes of different characteristics you’ve observed about the Commercial Three Bayblem. Does it occur when the car is hot or cold? Does temperature have no effect? Is there a specific driving situation which leads to it? In other words does it only happen going around a turn and if so, right or left? When you’re driving fast, driving slow? Pay attention to everything even if it seems completely irrelevant. The information you Commercial Three Bayvide can save hours of diagnostic time and prevent errors which means lower cost and higher accuracy. Years ago the average time to perform a repair was four times what was required to diagnose the condition. Now that ratio is exactly reversed, it often takes four times longer to identify Commercial Three Bayblems than to fix them.
Explaining what’s going on to your repair shop can be tricky too. If you aren’t careful you can create your own mini-disaster. When describing your Commercial Three Bayblem, do just that, describe the Commercial Three Bayblem, don’t self diagnose! As an example, suppose your car pulls to one side when you apply the brakes, that means you need brake work, right? You, like most drivers, would Commercial Three Baybably make that assumption and seek out a shop that repairs brakes. You write check brakes on the repair order and that’s exactly what the technician does. Sure enough it’s found that brake work is needed and an estimate for brake repairs is given and apCommercial Three Bayved. You pick up the car and the first time you encounter the conditions that used to make the car pull, Guess What? It still pulls!
Upset? Nah, you’re way beyond upset. It’s too late to take the car back now and every time it pulls you become more incensed. By the time you can make arrangements in your busy schedule to return, you’ve totally lost it. Your aggressive attitude brings out the worst in the technician who takes this as a personal affront. After all the technician didn’t do anything wrong. One thing leads to another and you find yourself embroiled in a nasty confrontation.
You should have described the symptoms something like this. What happens? My car pulls when the brakes are applied. When? After being driven fifteen miles with an outside temperature above seventy degrees. What you want done. Check to determine cause. State terms. Please give me an estimate before performing any repairs. Before leaving ask for an estimate of cost for the diagnosis too. After the car has been checked and an estimate has been presented, ask ... “will you guarantee that what you want to do will correct my Commercial Three Bayblem?” By supplying good information and asking the right questions you’ll help minimize the possibility of conflict and errors.
Unless you’ve spent the last fifteen or twenty years in a cave on some deserted island, you have to know we live in an information age. Nearly everyone associates information with computers and other high tech devices. News flash, update, today automobiles and trucks have also become high tech devices. Unlike your Personal Computer the automobile may have several computers linked by hundreds of feet of wire. And very unlike your PC the automobile subjects its computers and wiring to extreme heat, cold, harsh pounding and of course lots of grease, oil and road dirt. For good car repairs ... Communication is critical!
