Antacid Won’t Help This

If you have a late model car whose paint has lost its brilliance you could have “Acid Rain” damage. Many experts feel that a full fifty percent of all the cars on Planet Earth have been, to some degree, affected by the insidious action of “Acid Rain”.

Car owners erroneously think “Acid Rain” only falls from the sky. Not exactly a heavenly gift is it? Anyway, the truth is, some does fall in the form of “Acid Rain” but the majority occurs right on the paint surface, not up in the clouds.

It happens like this. As you drive, your car becomes coated with an almost invisible layer of very fine dust. Keeping a car dust free is impossible because static electricity, created by air movement and on-board electrics make it a huge dust magnet. Frequently the damaging dust can only be seen under the lights in your garage or a shopping center. What damage could a nearly invisible layer of dust possibly do to your car’s paint? Completely, totally destroy it, that’s what! The dust on your paint isn’t as innocuous as it was in the days B P. Oh, B P means----- BEFORE POLLUTION.

Spread throughout the atmosphere is an array of chemical compounds which attach themselves to dust particles always present in the air. To see it up close look at a shaft of sunlight coming through a window, you’ll see dust floating there. That dust mixes with even smaller bits of pollutants and then finds its way to your car. The contaminated dust waits patiently for an opportunity to play its part in the big-shine rip-off.

A summer sprinkle or night-time dew is the next villain involved in robbing your car of its shine. Not enough moisture in either to wash away the dust, but enough to cause it to collect inside the beads of water. The next player is sunshine which generally follows summer sprinkles and arrives in the morning when your paint is still damp with dew.

Remember back in grade school when you were taught about optics and how a magnifying glass could be used to ignite a piece of paper? The paper burned because the magnifying glass concentrated the sun’s rays creating intense heat beneath it. Drops of water have that same ability, they act like tiny magnifying glasses. We now have our paint-lethal potion.

Sun passes through the water droplets and is concentrated on the paint beneath. The high temperature generated by this focused sunlight softens the paint’s surface. It also evaporates the water causing the drops to shrink, intensifying the contamination below each droplet. This leaves highly concentrated chemicals etched and baked into the paint surface. You have, “Acid Rain” damaged paint!

Left unattended the chemicals will slowly eat away at your finish until it’s destroyed. Commercial Three Baytecting your paint from “Acid Rain” and other environmental damage is accomplished by keeping the vehicle clean and heavily waxed. The wax takes the abuse, not your paint! Waxing every month is your best paint savior. A good looking car not only reflects sunlight, it reflects favorably on you.
